College Basketball : Chapman Loses to Pugent Sound

Jack Forney scored 33 points and Maurice Selvin 30 as the University of Puget Sound defeated Chapman College, 82-76, Friday in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Puget Sound.
The score was tied, 62-62, with 6 minutes 45 seconds left, but the Loggers (9-4) went on a 16-7 run to take a 78-69 lead with 1:44 remaining. Forney scored 8 points during that stretch.
Forney made 14 of 16 shots. He also had 9 rebounds. Selvin made 9 of 20 shots and 11 of 12 free throws.
Kevin Stafford scored 17 points and Rog Middleton 14 for Chapman (7-5).
In the Occidental tournament:
Grand Canyon College 95, Southern California College 77--Craig Johnson scored 22 points and Blair Oliphant 18 as Grand Canyon (12-1) ended the Vanguards’ 6-game winning streak in a first-round game. Southern California trailed by only 7 points, 77-70, with 5 minutes left but was outscored, 18-7. Todd Dixon and Jeff Bickmore each had 21 points for the Vanguards (10-2).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
UC Riverside 90, Southern California College 45--Patti Held scored 21 points to lead Riverside (5-8) at Southern California College. Lori Halliday scored 14 points for the Vanguards (3-10).
In California Coastal Conference women’s basketball:
Pacific Christian College 55, American Indian Bible 6--Donna Allen scored and Gina Atkins each scored 10 points to lead Pacific Christian.
