Fred Schaus, West Virginia University athletic director, announced that he will retire June 30 from the post he has held for nearly 8 years.
Neil Bucklew, the university president, said Schaus, 63, a former college and professional basketball player and coach, will remain with the school on a part-time basis coordinating special projects.
Schaus, in a prepared statement issued by the school, cited a desire to have more “flexible time” as a reason for his retirement.
