Rival Shia Muslim militias battled for the fourth day in Beirut’s suburbs and in southern Lebanon. According to one report, the fighting between the pro-Syrian Amal and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militias intensified in the southern Beirut slums where 16 Western hostages are believed to be held. As many as 29 people have been reported killed, with dozens more wounded, since the fighting began Saturday.
