Hogan’s Shot Gives Barons 54-53 Victory
Carter Hogan made a 3-point basket with 10 seconds left to lift Fountain Valley High School to a 54-53 victory over Tustin in a boys’ nonleague basketball game Monday at Tustin.
Tustin had led all of the second half until Hogan, a senior forward, made the winning shot. Tustin’s Cheavly Ly then went into the key, but his shot was blocked and Fountain Valley got the rebound and ran out the clock.
Tustin opened a 15-10 lead in the first quarter and a 34-32 lead at the half. Tustin (10-4) also led, 44-39, after 3 quarters.
Ly, a senior guard, scored a game-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Mike Merli scored 12 and Doug Weaver 10 for Fountain Valley (10-2). Hogan ended with 5 points.
