3-Car Crash Hurts 6, Jams Traffic on Otay Mesa Road

Four adults and two children suffered multiple injuries in a three-car collision on Otay Mesa Friday, San Diego police reported.

Glenna Brodeth, a 60-year-old Imperial Beach woman, and Donald Thoza, a San Diegan in his mid-50s, were taken by Life Flight about 11:30 a.m. to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Brodeth was in fair condition with a broken left arm and several broken ribs, said hospital spokeswoman Lynn Morra.

Thoza was listed in serious condition with abdominal injuries, a fractured left arm and left leg and possible head injuries, Morra said.

A second Life Flight helicopter transported two women to UC San Diego Medical Center. An unidentified woman underwent surgery for major trauma Friday afternoon, and is listed in critical condition.

Cecilia Reyes, age unknown, is listed in good condition with a fractured jaw and arm, a spokeswoman said.

A sheriff’s helicopter transported a young brother and sister to Children’s Hospital. David Orozco, 2, is in fair condition with scrapes on his forehead, said hospital spokesman Mark Morelli.

Orozco’s 4-year-old sister was reportedly taken to another hospital, where she was treated and released.

Although details remain sketchy, Police Department investigators believe the accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Friday when a car pulling out of a private driveway onto Otay Mesa Road was struck by an eastbound vehicle, which apparently spun into the westbound lane and was struck by an oncoming car.

Westbound traffic in the 6200 block of Otay Mesa Road was snarled for several hours as firefighters and paramedics treated the victims.
