Paraguay has ordered the Roman Catholic radio station Caritas to reduce its power so that its broadcasts can be heard only in and around Asuncion, the capital, according to a station official. The state-owned telecommunications company Antelco handed down the order in a communique, Amado Farina, the station’s public relations manager, said. The reduction--from 10 kilowatts to just one--would make the station, a frequent critic of President Alfredo Stroessner, audible only within 30 miles of the capital as opposed to the current 300 miles.
