HONOLULU — Deposed Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos was in guarded condition at a Honolulu hospital today with heart trouble and possible pneumonia. A supporter said a priest had given the former president the last rites.
“He is very, very ill,” said Friends of Marcos President Joe Lazo. He said the 71-year-old Marcos was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center on Thursday night.
Lazo said Marcos’ wife, Imelda, had sent messages to President Reagan and President-elect George Bush asking that Marcos, who faces multimillion-dollar fraud charges in New York, be allowed to return to the Philippines. “That is his dying wish,” Lazo told reporters.
