Local : OC Jail Inmate Dies After Seizure
A 60-year-old Orange County Jail inmate died this morning after suffering a seizure at the UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was taken for an illness Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The man’s name is not being released until family members are notified, but he was a transient from Santa Ana, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Olson said.
The man turned himself in at the jail on Dec. 17 with warrants for possession of a hypodermic syringe and drug paraphernalia, and for failure to appear in court, Olson said.
He became ill Wednesday afternoon and was sent to Western Medical Center in Orange by the jail’s medical staff. “When he got there, he initially refused treatment,†Olson said. “But he was then stabilized and taken to the jail ward.â€
The man died at 5:40 this morning, he said. The district attorney’s office is investigating the death, as is usual with inmate deaths.
