Local News in Brief : Irvine : UCI Plans Symposium on Legacy of Dr. King

UC Irvine announced that it will hold a symposium Jan. 11 to 13 to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the late civil rights leader.
Titled “Where Do We Go from Here?” it will investigate ways to attain the goals that King set forth, UCI officials said.
The event will open with a noon panel discussion in the Koll Room at the Bren Events Center. Students and faculty on the panel will focus on “Can We Make the Dream a Reality?”
At 8 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the Science Lecture Hall, Randall Robinson, a human rights advocate and executive director of Trans-Africa, will speak on “Global Applications of the Principles of Martin Luther King Jr.”
On Jan. 12, there will be a presentation by black actors in the Koll Room of the Bren Events Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A march at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 13 will start at Mason Park in Irvine and proceed to the UCI campus for a noon rally at Gateway Plaza.
All activities except the Robinson lecture are free and open to the public. Tickets to the Robinson lecture cost $5, $6 and $7 and may be bought at the Bren Events Center ticket office.
