Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Crow Knocks Out the Power on Christmas
A wayward bird played Scrooge with the Christmas plans of most of Laguna Beach on Sunday.
The large crow landed on a transformer station in the Emerald Bay community within Laguna Beach, sparking an electrical fire that left much of the city without power for an hour, police said.
Firefighters, responding to a blaze at the transformer station, found the dead bird atop two insulators.
The fire was believed to have cut off power to much of the city, with the exception of the southern portion, although the number of households affected was not available.
The mishap knocked out most of the city’s traffic signals and prompted a non-stop flood of complaints to police between about 3:50 and 4:50 p.m.
But no accidents or major problems were reported during the outage, police said.
