LOCAL : Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoints
Several Orange County police departments will conduct sobriety checkpoints throughout the weekend, some of them beginning tonight.
Anaheim and Garden Grove police departments will set up sobriety checkpoints in their cities after 7 p.m. and announce the locations then. Officers will randomly stop drivers who come through the checkpoint to see if they have been drinking, administer field sobriety checks if necessary and arrest drunk drivers. Other departments planning checkpoints over the holiday weekend include Los Alamitos, Seal Beach and Westminster. Other departments, including Costa Mesa and Irvine, are increasing patrols to watch for drunk drivers.
