Just days before its Dec. 24 game against Army in the Sun Bowl at El Paso, Alabama shipped home backup quarterback Jeff Dunn after it was disclosed that he has been charged with an alcohol-related complaint.
Dunn, a junior, was arrested early last Sunday morning by police in Birmingham, Ala., and was allowed to post bond. Team officials said he was allowed to make the trip to El Paso only because Coach Bill Curry was unaware of the arrest at the time.
The Crimson Tide also announced that another quarterback, redshirt freshman Danny Woodson, has been ruled ineligible after a challenge of his college entrance examination scores.
Another Alabama player, freshman linebacker John Sullins, was not allowed to go to El Paso because of his arrest in Tuscaloosa, Ala., over the weekend on charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol, team officials said.
Curry said part of Sullins’ punishment “is not making the bowl trip. We will decide what else we’ll do when we return.â€
