Leapin’ Lizards! Customs Men Find Bag Alive With Reptiles
- Share via
LONDON — Customs officers at Bristol Airport west of London found an unusual haul of contraband this week in a traveler’s luggage--500 lizards.
The Times newspaper reported Saturday that the discovery was made during a random check of a passenger from Ibiza, a resort island off the coast of Spain.
Inside his suitcase were 500 Ibiza wall lizards, most still alive.
After confiscating the lizards--each worth about $54--the officers turned the reptiles over to a zoo.
No charges were filed against the man, who said he was trying to recoup the cost of his vacation.
