SYDNEY, Australia — Australia’s Santa Clauses won’t be getting pay raises for Christmas after all.
The New South Wales Pay Arbitration Commission decided on Friday to suspend until after Christmas further discussion of a pay claim by the state’s Santas.
Representatives of Santas told the commission that they deserved the actors’ pay rate of $60 for a three-hour stint in the sleigh.
At present, many are paid shop assistants’ wages of $18 for sitting in midsummer heat while toddlers pull their thick white beards.
