The Traffic Problem and Some Solutions
The Times is to be commended for its well-researched, comprehensive section on Orange County’s ever-increasing traffic.
I’d like to take exception with one story, however. In Mark Landsbaum’s account of traveling to work by bus, he proved once again our often-mentioned fact that bus commuting is not for everyone.
But we ask that Landsbaum not give up on finding other ways of getting to work than by driving alone. As a resident of Diamond Bar, Landsbaum’s commute to his office in Costa Mesa might be better served by car-pooling. He could be computer matched with several people who live and work near him, and even if he car-pooled just two or three days a week, that would be considered a successful ride-sharing arrangement by industry standards--just like the arrangement of the more than 35 million passengers who find bus commuting convenient for them.
