High School Class Catches Great Error

Several members of the Division IX CIF (Southern Section) football co-titlists from Carpinteria High School are also members of the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) class. The class frequently uses The Times sports section to increase cultural literacy; however, the students were thrown for a loss recently.
They were quick to point out that Mark Heisler confused Alexander the Great with Achilles in his Dec. 8 story. Achilles was told he could lead an uneventful but long life, or earn fame and glory with an early death. He was shot in the heel by a Trojan, thus completing the prophecy.
