The judge in the Iran-Contra case scheduled a hearing for Wednesday to begin making final preparations for the trial of former White House aide Oliver L. North. U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell, who has previously indicated the trial could begin as early as late January, said in an order that he wanted to discuss procedures for screening potential jurors and other pretrial housekeeping matters. The order provided yet another indication that Gesell is determined to take the case to a speedy trial.
