Floridian Chosen as GOP Co-Chairman

WASHINGTON — Jeanie Austin, chairwoman of the Republican Party in Florida, has been chosen to become the GOP national co-chairman, officials announced Friday.
Austin will be formally elected at a Republican National Committee meeting next month at which Lee Atwater’s designation as party chairman also will be ratified, the officials said. Atwater was President-elect George Bush’s campaign manager.
