Paramount, El Rancho in Semifinals

Paramount and El Rancho, the two remaining Southeast-area teams in the CIF Southern Section high school football playoffs, move into the semifinals at 7:30 Friday night.
In Division III, Paramount, 10-1, will play host to Mission Viejo, 12-0. The Pirates defeated Santa Ana, 21-14, in overtime last week on a 7-yard pass from Jack Manu to Jean Boyd.
In Division IV, El Rancho, 10-2, will play Ramona, 11-1, in Riverside.
“I’ve coached for 27 years and I’ve never seen a better defensive effort,” El Rancho Coach Dick Shelko said after the Dons beat Northview, 25-7, last week.
The season ended for Dominguez, which lost to El Modena, 31-6, in Division III; Schurr, which lost to Los Alamitos, 52-21, in Division III; Bell Gardens, a 14-6 loser to Claremont in Division IV; Valley Christian, which was defeated by Tehachapi, 12-8, in Division IX; and Whittier Christian, which was beaten by Desert, 35-7, in Division IX.
