UC Irvine rallied to upset 14th-ranked San Diego State, 7-15, 12-15, 15-9, 15-7, 15-4, in a women’s volleyball match at Irvine Friday.
Ali Wood had 21 kills and Kris Roberts had a school-record 8 solo blocks for the Anteaters, who are 18-10 overall and 7-9 in the Big West Conference.
San Diego State (21-9, 8-7) was led by Jackie Mendez, who had 16 kills.
In the Rolex Southern California Regional tennis tournament:
Richard Lubner of UC Irvine won both his matches to advance to the round of 16 at UC Irvine.
Lubner, the No. 3-seeded player, defeated Giora Payes, 6-2, 6-2, then defeated Jose Luis Noraga of the University of San Diego, 6-3, 7-6.
