D.C. Homicide Mark Broken

WASHINGTON — The nation’s capital set a grisly standard today when police recorded the 288th homicide of 1988, a city record for the most homicides in a single year.
The 288 deaths exceeded the previous mark of 287, set in 1969. Authorities blamed drugs for the upsurge in violence.
