Court officials in India postponed a hearing on the government’s $3-billion lawsuit seeking compensation from Union Carbide Corp. for victims of the 1984 Bhopal, India, gas disaster. Lawyers for the U.S.-based company and the Indian government appeared in the court of District Judge M. W. Deo to take up pretrial matters, but the court clerk said the judge was on leave. The attorneys agreed to meet again Nov. 26.
