Rio Mesa 21, Ventura 7--Fourteen seconds after Ventura scored a touchdown to tie the score, 7-7, David LaSalle returned the ensuing kickoff 63 yards on the final play of the third quarter for Rio Mesa (2-6, 1-4) at Ventura.
Rio Mesa quarterback John Gomez scored from 1 yard with 4:32 to play to complete the scoring. Running back Myron Hart scored the first Rio Mesa touchdown from 2 yards in the second quarter.
Ventura (4-4, 1-4) scored on an unusual play. Running back Tim Albrent took the handoff and rushed to the 30 yard line where he was stripped of the ball. Offensive lineman Adam Good scooped up the ball and ran 23 yards for the touchdown.
