Manning, Agent Reject Clippers’ Contract Offer

Danny Manning and agent Ron Grinker rejected the Clippers’ latest contract offer Thursday and returned to Cincinnati, 12 hours after arriving in Los Angeles.
The Clippers’ latest attempt to end the holdout of the National Basketball Assn.’s No. 1 draft pick was a 5-year deal for $10 million, a change from their offer of 4 years for $6 million. But Grinker balked at anything but a 4-year contract, and deferments that would have reduced the actual payments for the 1988-89 season.
The Clippers will play the Seattle SuperSonics tonight at Spokane, Wash., in their second-to-last exhibition game. The teams met Wednesday at the Sports Arena, with the Clippers winning in overtime, 117-108.
