Francis (Fay) Vincent Jr., the former chairman and chief executive officer of Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc., will become deputy commissioner and chief operating officer of baseball April 1.
The appointment is effective the same day that Bart Giamatti replaces Peter Ueberroth as commissioner.
