PORTLAND, Ore. — The second of five people who ate poison “death cup” mushrooms during a dinner party with family and friends underwent liver transplant surgery today at the Portland Veterans Administration Hospital.
The operation on Isun Pak, 52, began shortly after 9 a.m., a hospital spokesman said. Glenda Sabolyk, 41, who ate the mushrooms shortly before she was to announce her engagement, was in critical condition today after undergoing a liver transplant at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center on Thursday. Two of the three other victims are awaiting transplants; one may not need one.
