A federal judge in Atlanta rejected Rep. Pat Swindall’s request to save time by having his perjury trial proceed without a jury. Swindall (R-Ga.), facing 10 counts of lying to a grand jury about a deal involving laundered drug money, wants to vindicate himself before Nov. 8, when voters decide whether to grant him a third term. He said a jury trial could extend the hearings beyond Election Day. “I understand your concerns about the Nov. 8 election, but you have more important concerns right now than the Nov. 8 election date,” U.S. District Judge Robert Vining said.
