Local News in Brief : Irvine : 2 Men Arrested After Shotgun Fired at Garage
Two men on a motorcycle were arrested by Newport Beach police after they allegedly fired shotgun pellets into the garage of an Irvine home during a drive-by shooting, police said.
The suspects, Jeffrey Mikia Okuda, 23, of Irvine, and Lee Matthew Clyde, 20, who listed addresses in Orange and San Diego, were stopped after they ran a red light about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday in Newport Beach, police in Irvine and Newport Beach said. One of the men was attempting to hide a sawed-off shotgun under his jacket, police said.
Upon questioning the men, it was learned that the gun had been used to fire at a house earlier, Irvine Police Sgt. Jeff Kermode said. The earlier shooting had not been reported, and no one had been injured, he said.
After some “backtracking,†police found the house in the 5900 block of Sierra Siena in Irvine, he said. The police report on the shooting did not indicate a motive, and Kermode said he could not confirm a report that the suspects were attempting to intimidate one of the residents, Michael David Jones, into paying a debt.
A member of Jones’ family who answered the telephone Tuesday night declined comment.
Kermode said the two men were arrested on suspicion of carrying an illegal weapon and discharging a firearm at a dwelling.
