Local News in Brief : 8 Charges Dropped in McMartin Case
Eight more charges were dismissed Monday in the trial of two teachers charged in the McMartin Pre-School molestation case.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Pounders dismissed the molestation counts at the request of prosecutors, who said there was insufficient evidence to support the charges.
Last week, Pounders dismissed 27 of 99 molestation charges filed against former McMartin preschool teachers Raymond Buckey, 30, and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, 61. Those dismissals stemmed from the refusal of three alleged child victims to testify. The children had said they were too scared.
With Monday’s dismissals, Ray Buckey remains charged with 52 molestation charges and his mother remains charged with 12. Both also remain charged with a single conspiracy count.
