Local News in Brief : Buena Park : Boy Struck by Pickup Listed in Fair Condition
An 18-month-old boy, struck by a small pickup truck at an apartment complex on Franklin Street, was listed in fair condition Monday in the pediatric intensive-care unit of the UCI Medical Center.
Police identified the boy as Elisci Onica.
Officers said that when they arrived at 6:21 p.m. Sunday, they found the father, Steven Onica, 39, frantically driving away to take the boy to a nearby hospital.
Police said Onica at first said he had driven the truck that struck his son, then said a friend had driven it.
Officers described the father as “pretty hysterical†and said he refused to describe what had happened. Accident investigators said they found no other witness and recommended that the investigation be closed.
“We don’t suspect a crime; we feel it is an accident,†said Officer Richard McMillan, a police spokesman. “Our investigator feels he’s got all the information he’s able to get.â€
