Local News in Brief : Redondo Condo Project OKd
- Share via
After nearly two hours of public debate Tuesday, the Redondo Beach City Council overrode a veto by the mayor and approved a four-unit condominium project.
The decision on the project at 520-522 North Guadalupe Avenue attracted about 50 residents, who were evenly split on the plan, to the council chambers. The 13,000-square-foot project was rejected in May by the Planning Commission because the structure was deemed too large and incompatible with surrounding houses.
One of the developers of the project, Jesse Rodriguez, said that after the denial, he met with several neighbors and substantially revised the project’s size and design.
Mayor Barbara Doerr, who vetoed the council’s 4-to-1 approval of the project, called it still too large for the area. Following a heated exchange between the mayor and Councilman Archie Snow, the council voted 4-to-1 to override the veto.
