Southern Section Roundup : Westervelt Lifts Hart Over Saugus, 17-7
Hart rebounded from a third-quarter deficit to defeat Saugus, 17-7, in a nonleague game Friday night at College of the Canyons.
Trailing, 7-3, with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, Hart took the lead when Rob Westervelt passed 14 yards to wide receiver Cameron Smyth for a score.
Tight end Brian Allen capped the scoring with 10:04 to play on a 36-yard pass from Westervelt.
Westervelt, a junior, completed 15 of 34 passes for 186 yards. He threw a pair of scoring passes and had 3 passes intercepted.
Scott Etheridge gave Hart a 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal with 10:44 left in the first half, but Saugus grabbed a 7-3 advantage on a 49-yard pass from George Lopata to Angel Martinez with 5:57 remaining in the third quarter.
Hart linebacker Tony Adelini set up the final touchdown when he intercepted a Lopata pass at the Saugus 44 on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Hart running back Howard Blackwell carried 21 times for 104 yards.
Lopata completed 14 of 30 for 224 yards. He had 2 passes intercepted.
