Local News in Brief : Mission Viejo : Saddleback Class Is Part of Amnesty Ad
A Saddleback College English class for immigrants will be featured in a public-service television commercial urging immigrants to complete amnesty-law requirements, the community college announced.
College officials said the Saddleback class will appear in a TV commercial promoting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service’s supervision of the amnesty program for undocumented aliens. Barbara Bush, wife of Vice President George Bush, will provide the voice-over narration for the 30-second TV spot, according to Mike Merrifield, an English-as-a-second-language instructor at the college.
Airing times for the commercial have not been announced.
College officials said the INS public service announcements are intended to encourage undocumented aliens who have applied for amnesty to complete the legal requirements, which include enrolling in 30 hours of English language and American civics studies or passing an equivalency test.
