Local News in Brief : Outage Puts 4,700 in Dark for an Hour

A power outage cut a swath of darkness across parts of three San Gabriel Valley cities Sunday night when a circuit malfunctioned.
A spokesman for Southern California Edison said that 4,700 customers in Arcadia, Temple City and San Gabriel lost power at 8:49 p.m. They got a flicker of light a few minutes later, but full power was not restored to everyone until 9:52 p.m.
Sheriff’s Deputy Ken Briscoe said the department’s switchboard in Temple City “lit up like a Roman candle” as concerned residents tried to find out when the lights would go on again. Although the outage set off burglar alarms, Briscoe said, no major problems were reported.
