SOME HAPPY CAMPERS
This is a view far removed from the position of Margo Kaufman in “Unhappy Camper†(July 24). Her article was thoughtfully reviewed while on a weekend camping trip to Mt. Pinos, after a day of exploring the many fields of lupine and Indian paintbrush in the cool, rarefied air of the mountain.
Kaufman states: “I view camping as an exercise in masochism.†Somehow that point was lost on our group. Camping is a last link to our very souls. It is all that remains of the past, when we emerged from the primordial soup--only to progress to fighting traffic on a congested freeway. Camping should be kept an exercise in simplicity.
