Back to the Drawing Board With ‘Gateway’

Re: the proposed “Gateway” to Los Angeles, I completely agree with Sam Hall Kaplan (Aug. 28). He pointed out that the finalists had been chosen perhaps too hastily, and from a body of submissions that may have reflected inadequate awareness of the site and the culture.
This is too permanent and expensive a commitment to pursue on the basis of inadequate preparation.
This is our tax money and our city. There should be no loss of face in reopening the competition and advertising the project with requirements and parameters that will produce a more suitable crop of entrants.
