CLEANUP: A cleanup of the California least tern preserve at Huntington State Beach and the nearby Huntington Beach Wetlands is on the agenda for Saturday as part of a statewide coastal cleanup day. The event is part of California Coastweeks, Sept. 17 to Oct. 10, and is sponsored by the state Coastal Commission to focus attention on the coastline.
Volunteers for the Huntington State Beach cleanup, which will run from from 9 a.m. to noon, are asked to meet in the south end of Lot 1, where Brookhurst Street meets Pacific Coast Highway. For information, call (714) 536-1454.
WETLANDS TOUR: Amigos de Bolsa Chica, which sponsored a successful cleanup day Sept. 17, will offer its first day of public wetlands walking tours on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The free tours leave every 20 minutes from the ecological reserve parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway, south of Warner Avenue.
The hourlong tours cover the area’s natural and human history and its political future. They continue the first Saturday of each month through spring. For information, call (714) 897-7003.
Friends of Newport Bay will offer tours of the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve beginning Oct. 15. Other dates are Nov. 12, Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Feb. 4 and March 4.
