Rubber Balloons Don’t Kill Sea Life, but Non-Biodegradable Plastics Will

Re: Rebuttal to “Killer Balloons” in Viewpoints, Sunday, Sept. 11.
As the first recognized “balloon artist,” who produces and directs elaborate and spectacular media events such as the displays at the 1988 Republican Convention and the Constitutional Bicentennial, I have always been deeply concerned about our planet and continue to monitor research on balloons and any impact they may have on the environment.
My studies during the past 11 years show that it is the careless and irresponsible disposal of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials that have had deleterious effects known to cause death among sea mammals and fish.
BalloonArt by Treb uses only harmless, biodegradable latex (rubber) balloons in our creations, which bring color, happiness and joy to the world.
