Turkey’s Pied Piper
We read a brief note in Jerry Hulse’s Travel Tips (Oct. 4, 1987) about a cultural tour of Turkey. It piqued our interest and we went this summer with Bora Ozkok on what was a unique experience. With his flute (white PVC pipe) he was our Pied Piper from Istanbul to the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the Aegean.
Along the way we had a four-day folk dance and music seminar, spent a night with a Turkish family, were entertained by regional dancers and also did the usual sightseeing. Ozkok is a warm, enthusiastic person with a wide knowledge of the arts, crafts, folkways, music and cuisine of his country. It was a remarkable trip for active, adventurous people. For information on 1989 summer tours, contact Ozkok at 13941 Northfield St., Oak Park-Detroit, Mich. 48237.
