Senior tailback Jeff Shinar scored three touchdowns to lead Norte Vista High School to a 23-0 victory over Laguna Beach Friday at Laguna Beach.
Shinar scored twice on one-yard runs and returned an interception of a pass by Laguna Beach quarterback Aaron Scheid 85 yards for his third touchdown.
Norte Vista’s senior quarterback, Mike Harris, completed 13 of 23 passes for 143 yards. The Braves, members of the Mountain View League, are 2-0.
The Artists (0-2) threatened to score in the fourth quarter after a 52-yard pass from Scheid to senior tight end Darren Webb gave them a first down at the Brave 21. But two plays later, Shinar returned his interception for a touchdown.
Shinar carried 18 times for 48 yards and caught 5 passes for 42 yards. Scheid, playing catch-up most of the game, completed 7 of 19 passes for 123 yards. Webb caught 4 for 96.
“We got outplayed, but we didn’t get out-hit,” said Lyman Olney, the Artists’ coach. “We made a lot of turnovers that consistently gave them a short field.”
