Prep Football : Roundup : Neben Passes, Runs Lancers to 15-11 Win

Jason Neben ran for one touchdown and threw for another as Orange Lutheran High School rallied in the fourth quarter for a 15-11 victory over Aquinas Friday night in a nonleague football game at Aquinas.

The Lancers trailed, 11-0, late in the fourth quarter, but Neben scored on a six-yard run with 4:09 left.

Doug Spoolstra recovered a fumble with two minutes left to set up the go-ahead score. Neben capped the drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass to David Spoolstra with 1:16 left for Orange Lutheran (2-0).

Neben rushed for 163 yards in 25 carries and completed 9 of 11 passes for 105 yards. He also had an interception.

L.B. Wilson 17, Bolsa Grande 0--Scott Vernauer scored two third-quarter touchdowns to lead host Wilson.

With Wilson leading, 3-0, quarterback Tim Williams threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Vernauer for a 10-0 lead. Vernauer then scored on a 65-yard run.

Bolsa Grande is 0-2.

Walnut 26, Brea-Olinda 14--Wide receiver Anthony Gallahan scored touchdowns on reverses of 6 and 86 yards for Walnut (2-0) in a nonleague game at Nogales High School.

Gallahan’s scores almost overshadowed Walnut’s Tom Sturgeon, who rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown and ran for a two-point conversion after Gallahan’s first score.

Brea-Olinda is 0-2.

Ryan Nicholsan scored both of Brea-Olinda’s touchdowns on passes of 20 and 6 yards from Chad Marlow.

Whittier Christian 33, Cantwell 0--Rich Earlywine threw for two touchdowns and Ron Papazian rushed for two to lead host Whittier Christian.

After Tony Anneler scored on a four-yard run for a 6-0 first-quarter lead, Earlywine connected with David Zamorano on a 52-yard scoring play for a 12-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Papazian scored on a one-yard run. Mike Coahlo’s extra point gave Whittier Christian a 19-0 halftime lead.

Earlywine threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Alex Davilla in the third quarter. Papazian scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
