One-Half of UCLA Better Than the Whole

Certainly it would be churlish not to feel good for Terry Donahue in getting the Nebraska monkey off his back along with his 100th win.
And yet . . . Donahue still hasn’t learned to relax in a big game and let the play flow. You could see him starting to get tight when the score reached 38-7 just before the half. From then on, his sweaty thumbprint was all over the Bruin offense and defense.
Donahue, at 44, is on the verge of putting UCLA football in the Oklahoma-Miami league. He gives evidence of realizing all this when, for the first time, he lets the phrase national championship pass his lips. He has all the talent, all the experience, all the resources needed to do the job right. Now if only he can give up his childish fretting and go after all the available prizes with both hands.
