Prep Football : White’s Three Touchdowns Lead Irvine
Pat White scored three touchdowns to lead Irvine High School to a 28-15 nonleague victory over Villa Park Friday at Irvine.
White led Irvine’s running game, rushing for 50 yards in 18 carries. Mike Belle sat out the game with an injury. Belle had rushed for 142 yards in 17 carries in the last game against University.
Irvine quarterback Dave Lincoln completed 13 of 18 passes for 174 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Shad Vickers caught 7 of those passes for 115 yards.
Irvine (2-0) took the early lead when White ran over from seven yards out with 6:32 left in the first quarter.
Villa Park (1-1) tied the score, 7-7, when Jomo Stewart scored on a 20-yard run with 9:24 left in the second quarter.
Irvine moved out to a 14-7 lead on a nine-yard run by White with 6:08 left in the second quarter. The Vaqueros moved ahead, 21-7, on a20-yard run by Randy Martin with 7:19 left in the third quarter.
White caught a three-yard pass from Lincoln in the third quarter to give Irvine a 28-7 advantage.
Villa Park closed the gap to 28-15 when Stewart scored from two yards out with 2:24 left in the game. Villa Park converted a two-point conversion when quarterback Eric Helms completed a pass to Stewart.
Stewart rushed for 102 yards in 14 carries, but Helms completed only 5 of 15 passes for 49 yards.
