N.Y. Fan ‘Really Upset’ Over Def Leppard Review

I’m really upset about Steve Hochman’s review of the Def Leppard shows at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre (“Def Leppard Must Change to Keep Its No. 1 Spot,” Calendar, Aug. 22). I flew (to Orange County) from New York City just to see these shows, and there was not a thing wrong with them. In my opinion, they were perfect.
Joe Elliott is the best front man around, and he really got the crowd going with the cheering contest. He doesn’t talk to the audience with every other word being vulgar as some other bands around today do.
As far as Rick Allen is concerned, he isn’t just the best one-armed drummer, he’s the best drummer, period. Rick went through a lot of crap to get where he is now, and he’s doing a damn good job.
As far as Leppard not having classic songs, that’s a load. Did Mr. Hochman ever listen to any of their albums? The songs “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak,” “Rock of Ages,” “Foolin,” “Rock, Rock (Till You Drop),” “Photograph,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me”--the list is endless. I could go on and on, but how’s that for classic songs?
These shows were definitely not evaporating into the night as Mr. Hochman said in his review. Just ask the 15,000 people at both shows.
