A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the shooting Monday evening of James McCruter, 14, of Baldwin Hills outside a pizza shop in South-Central Los Angeles, Los Angeles police said.
McCruter was shot in the chest when he intervened in a dispute over the 16-year-old’s bicycle, police said. Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the events leading up to the shooting, but one of McCruter’s companions said the 14-year-old was shot after he asked the armed youth, “Are you going to shoot my homeboy?”
Police arrested the 16-year-old, who was not identified, at his home in Baldwin Hills.
