Christian groups in the Netherlands applied in an Amsterdam court Tuesday for an injunction to stop the Dutch premiere of director Martin Scorsese’s film “The Last Temptation of Christ.” The application, made by a member of the small religious Protestant Party and a fundamentalist Christian group called “Stop the Film,” said the movie was blasphemous and would cause unnecessary grief to Christians. The president of the Amsterdam court said he would see the film in a private screening before ruling on the application Sept. 20.
