The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday appropriated $80,000 for a one-day hazardous-waste-collection program in the northeast San Fernando Valley.
Residents will be invited to bring surplus paint, garden chemicals, oil and other wastes to locations to be determined later.
The toxics-collection program will be one of eight across the city in 1989, said David Mays, chief deputy to Councilman Ernani Bernardi, who represents the northeast Valley.
Collection dates, as well as locations, will be selected later, a city official said.
