The chase began in Riverside at 8:15 p.m. when city police attempted to arrest a man suspected of stealing a car at gunpoint, Riverside police Sgt. Mike Wilson said. City police, Riverside County deputies and the California Highway Patrol joined the pursuit at speeds up to 130 m.p.h. as the man headed toward San Diego on Interstate 15 in the stolen 1985 Camaro. In San Diego County, San Diego sheriff’s deputies and a sheriff’s helicopter joined the chase, CHP officials said.

The chase ended at about 9:10 p.m. when the man’s car crashed into a guardrail at Adams Avenue and Texas Street near North Park.
