Quarter-Horse Program Opens Tonight
The Horsemen’s Quarter Horse Racing Assn. opens its 17th season at Los Alamitos Race Course tonight with a 10-race program highlighted by the $20,000 Inaugural Handicap.
The fall season features 50 night-racing programs on Tuesdays through Saturdays through Nov. 19, when the Champion of Champions will end the season. First post is 7:30 p.m. each night except for Friday’s delayed 7:45 p.m. opening post.
More than $2.5 million in prize money will be handed out for eight major stakes races. The schedule includes the $200,000 Governor’s Cup Derby on Sept. 24.
On Oct. 14, Los Alamitos will be host to the second running of the Quarter Horse Breeders Classics, with seven championship races on one program.
The action continues on Oct. 29 when the best stakes horses of the season compete in the $100,000 Horsemen’s Quarter Horse Racing Assn. Championship. The $250,000 Southern California Derby debuts on Nov. 5.
