Just when the presidential candidates have reminded us all how and when to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, Ray Charles has begun a crusade to change the national anthem. Charles, whose soulful rendition of “America the Beautiful” just might be a national treasure, said the song is more positive, easier to sing and not as martial as “The Star Spangled Banner.” The singer is asking those who would like to make “America the Beautiful” the new official national anthem to write him at 8730 Sunset Blvd., 6th floor, Los Angeles, Calif. 90069.
